Sleeping

Gloria is a great napper! You can find her half of the day in the swing like this (she is there right now). Only once has Lydia ever woken her up. And check out the hair :)

Candy Canes

I didn't introduce Lydia to candy canes-her dad did at Thanksgiving and our neighbor gave her one so if she eats all of her good lunch (see the empty plate) then she can have a little piece this week; but I am the one who has to clean it up!

Christmas songs

Gloria has lots of songs with her names including Christmas ones. At the beginning of the seasons, Lydia asked for Gloria's song and I started singing-Gloria I got your number. And she said-no the Ooooooooooo Gloria song. Today in the car Lydia sang Ooooooooo (properly like the song) then Lydia. And Lydia says that Lydia snow, Lydia snow (Let it snow) is her Christmas song.
Yesterday we were singing Away in a Manger and sometimes it was Jesus asleep in the hay, sometimes Lydia and sometimes Gloria.

Sisters and shots

Gloria turned two months a few days after Lydia turned two, so we scheduled their doctor appointments together (Caleb took off to help me). Lydia only got pricked and a flu shot, Gloria got three (see her bandaids). They enjoy having 'back time' together. And yes, Gloria's hair always looks like this.

TV

Well, I finally did it. Now that Lydia is two she can watch tv (though she has a different times-at friend's houses, with her dad watching nature shows, the Olympics, etc). But this is the first time I have sat her down at our home to watch a show for her. She likes it and now seeing me do this wants to watch it now.......but it was nice to get the dinner done with no distractions.

Lydia's Two!

Lydia turned two on Thanksgiving! Because we were traveling we had several different parties (lots of cake!) One at our sweet neighbors, one when Grandpa and Nana came to visit and one on Thanksgiving at Caleb's families' after we ate turkey.

Visit to Santa

We went to visit Santa in the mall with my Mom. Last year Lydia screamed. This year even though we talked about it and now she tells us all about Santa, when it was actually time to sit on his lap she would have none of it. But she stood beside him (my arm is in her back to keep her from backing up). Gloria, who just woke up for the picture, did great! Santa was kinda grumpy, it was hot in the mall and the register was broken so we didn't get a professional picture and then they closed down after us. Probably a lot of disappointed people, but we had a great day.

Smile

Gloria is a regular smiler now but this is the first one we caught on camera!

Too cute!

Sisters! matching world shirts and blue jeans.

Friend trip

Caleb had a conference in Ft Worth so we stay with Carrie and family and Alisa came to visit too. Big kids-Luke, Lydia and Michael and babies-Claire and Gloria. Luke & Lydia enjoyed pushing each other and taking the other's toys :) Michael didn't want to pose in the bathtub. Only two of the five kids got injuries-neither were mine and only one was inflicted by Lydia.

Halloween

We had a good time handing out candy at our home and Lydia trick or treated at two neighbors. She was an Omani princess (a traditional outfit that a friend's mom gave my mom when they came to visit us). Gloria had a pumpkin onesie and black cat accessories. There is also cousin Jonathan who was a skunk (I don't think he was too impressed) that we saw at my parents house, it was a great photo shoot.

Lydia's Political Endorsement

hehehe I (Elizabeth) couldn't resist and as Auntie Kathy says-our family shouldn't discuss politics because we all just cancel out each other's votes anyway.

Little Pumpkins

Caleb's family came to visit and we went to a pumpkin patch-Gloria slept the whole time. We also took her to a restaurant-hamburgers & ice cream)

Big sister & little sister

Lydia and Gloria exchanged big sister and little sister baby dolls. Now Lydia wants the one she gave Gloria to always be by her side, we were all in the kitchen and watched out to find Gloria like this (she is asleep under there)

Hair cut!

Lydia needed her bangs trimmed and I have done it twice before so last night I got the scissors out and oops-I cut them way too short! I know they will grow but hopefully any minute now we will be having lots of family photo opportunities with the new baby. Discussing it with a friend I remembered the French movie Amelie and her short bangs, so we decided this is what we were going for :) chic and french.

Fun sayings

Some more funny things Lydia has said:
"I see Nini eat Happy cake." She calls herself Nini, and this was when she wanted to look in her baby book and see the pictures of her eating her 1 year birthday cake.
"Jesus help boo-boos" This is when she wants you to read the story of Jesus and the 10 lepers. This is a big improvement because for a long time we were only 'allowed' to read Adam&Eve and Baby Moses :)
"poor humpy humpy" after Humpty Dumpty fell off the wall.
"hakahaka" = helicopter
"labalaba" = water bottle

Gymboree

We went to a birthday party at Gymboree and Lydia loved playing!

Lady Bugs!

We love Ladybugs!

Evacuees!

Because of Hurricane Ike hitting SE Texas, Caleb's brother-Matt and Heidi, Sophia and Xavier came for a visit. Lydia enjoyed friends to play with, though she has a hard time sharing and not hitting!

Gloria Joy

we have a name for baby #2 aka baby Minnow-Gloria Joy! She will be joining us in about a month. This is a picture of me at a shower this past weekend.

I NEED....

Lydia has learned how to say I need when she wants something. For example "I need outside" when she wants to play outside, "I need water" when she wants a drink.
So far my favorites:
"I need big oval" while we were using sidewalk chalk and she wanted me to draw a big oval (which is her favorite shape right now).
"I need cookie!!" this was said repeatedly on the drive home from a church social where she got to eat one cookie.
"I need Dixie Chicks" Lydia has a favorite band. On the trip to Beaumont we listened to the Wide Open Spaces cd for 3 hours and the first song for about 2 of those, it was the only thing that would keep her from fussing. . So now when she doesn't like my choice of music in the car she NEEDS the Dixie Chicks.
Other new fun sayings:
"I do it!"
"Mommy all done singing" while I was singing along to the Prince of Egypt cd this morning.
And "I fart" Caleb taught her this one ;( but she says it at the appropriate time.

Typical Pic

This is a typical shot we get of Lydia or her nose is two inches from the camera :) Here she is holding her swimsuit and swim diaper because she LOVES to go swimming!

Monday, August 11, 2008

Lydia loves to eat. She ate two whole ears of corn this day. She has recently gotten her second haircut (bangs only). She also has 16 teeth!

Cousins

We visited Catherine, Justin, Gabriel and Sasha (the dog) in Lufkin. They have a great house and new life there. Lydia likes her cousins and has a new boy cousin named Jonathon on Mom's side-Jessamy & Bill's son born on 8-8-08, and we look forward to visiting them in Garland soon.
Lydia also really likes puppies. She enjoyed saying, "NO, Sasha." when she jumped and Caleb taught her to say, "Mommy, I want a puppy." Maybe in five years kid....... :)

First Snowcone

On our trip to Port Arthur (a family mission trip that was hot and inspiring) Lydia got to try her first snowcone, unlike ice cream, she didn't really like it so Elizabeth got to finish it off. Elizabeth likes snowcones :)

4th of July Weekend!

We spent the 4th of July at the Boyd's home and had the traditional picnic. Lots of family and friends from both sides came.

Lydia had a lot of fun in the tent with Grandpa and then the
other kids.

March of the Flags!

Uncle Bill was the Pied Piper for all the kids and fireworks.

Rosie (the dog) wanted to get in and cool off too.

Pregnant sister-in-laws! Jessamy is due beginning of Aug.
